| Comments (English): Be very careful about arranging airport pickup with Sun Court Hotel Yatri. I had e-mailed the hotel to confirm my room reservation and arrange airport pickup, and the manager, Mr. Harendra, confirmed my reservation and pickup by return e-mail. When I got to Delhi airport, there was a man holding a sign with my name, so I followed him to his car. There was another man in the car (a driver); they took me to the Sun Court Hotel Yatri. I paid the driver 400 Rp and the two men left. An hour after I checked in I got a phone call from Mr. Harendra, who said there was a driver still waiting at the airport for me and asked how I had gotten to the hotel. When I explained that I had gone with the driver that had a sign with my name on it, he insisted that I had gone with the "wrong driver" and that this was somehow my fault, and that I had to pay for the second driver who was still at the airport. In the end, I finally paid half of the fee Mr. Harendra wanted for the second driver (an additional 200 Rp). I had not heard of this particular scam. Either someone at the hotel has access to thehotel e-mail and is passing pickup info to an outside friend who is doing the pickups and collecting fees for himself, or the manager was lying to me about the second driver so he could collect an extra fee; I don't know which of these was the actual case. As far as the hotel, when I showed up to check in I was told there was no room available and I had to go to their other hotel. After I produced a copy of the e-mail from Mr. Harendra confirming the reservation, the clerk magically found a room available. However, the room they gave me had no outside window and smelled strongly of oil-paint vapors. After about 15 minutes I decided I could not tolerate the fumes and went back downstairs to ask for a different room. The desk clerk proceeded to move an elderly Indian businessman out of the room he was unpacking into and put me in that room instead. The new room had an outside window with no curtains - I was assured that they were being cleaned and would be replaced the next day. NOT! However, it didn't really matter because the window was so dirty that no one could see through it anyway. The room also had a fan and air conditioner that both rattled loudly enough to keep me from sleeping, so neither was a good option. The Sun Court Hotel Yatri does have some good points: The bed was reasonably comfortable, everything in the bathroom worked, the hotel has a good, reasonably-priced rooftop restaurant, there were local newspapers in the lobby, and the hotel is reasonably close to the metro stop. Overall, while the Sun Court Hotel Yatri is tolerable for a couple of nights, you can do better in the Karol Baugh area for the price.
